Alpha-Stim® is a prescription medical device that uses cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES), and in certain models, microcurrent electrical therapy (MET).

Depending on the device, Alpha-Stim® may be used for anxiety, insomnia, and pain. It may also be incorporated alongside medication, psychotherapy, rehabilitation, sleep-focused care, and other clinically appropriate treatment.

Alpha-Stim® M is FDA-cleared for pain and may be considered for selected patients experiencing acute, chronic, or post-traumatic pain.

For patients with neuropathy, Alpha-Stim® does not treat the underlying nerve damage or cause of neuropathy. However, Alpha-Stim® M may be considered for the pain associated with neuropathy.

Federal law restricts Alpha-Stim® devices to sale by or on the order of a licensed healthcare practitioner in the United States.

Contraindications

Alpha-Stim® is contraindicated in people with implanted pacemakers or implanted or wearable defibrillators.

Pregnancy

The safety of Alpha-Stim® stimulation has not been established during pregnancy.

Possible Adverse Effects

Reported adverse effects are generally rare, mild, and self-limiting and may include dizziness, skin irritation or electrode burns, and headache.

Your provider will review relevant warnings, precautions, contraindications, and device instructions before recommending Alpha-Stim®.
