Explore SPRAVATO® ↓IMPORTANT DISTINCTION
Ketamine for psychiatric treatment is an off-label use.
Ketamine is an FDA-approved medication used as a general anesthetic. However, ketamine is not FDA-approved for the treatment of depression or any other psychiatric disorder.
When ketamine is prescribed or administered for a psychiatric condition, it is considered an off-label use. Off-label prescribing is a recognized part of medical practice, but it means the FDA has not specifically approved ketamine for that psychiatric indication.
Before any future ketamine treatment is offered through Northwind Wellness, patients will receive individualized evaluation and counseling regarding potential benefits, limitations, uncertainties, risks, alternatives, and available FDA-approved options.
OUR APPROACH
More than simply offering a treatment.
Our ketamine program is being designed around thoughtful patient selection, safety, monitoring, and integration with ongoing mental health care.
Careful Screening
Treatment would begin with a medical and psychiatric review to determine whether ketamine is a reasonable option for your individual situation.
Informed Decision-Making
We believe patients should understand what is known, what remains uncertain, and what alternatives are available before deciding whether to proceed.
Medical Monitoring
Treatment protocols will include appropriate medical monitoring and post-treatment assessment based on the treatment provided and individual clinical needs.
Whole-Person Care
Ketamine should not exist in isolation. When appropriate, treatment will be considered alongside medications, psychotherapy, sleep, lifestyle, medical factors, and other contributors to mental health.

Interested in an FDA-approved option?
Northwind Holistic Psychiatry offers SPRAVATO® (esketamine) treatment for eligible adults in a medically supervised setting.
FDA-approved indications include:
SPRAVATO® is FDA-approved for treatment-resistant depression in adults and may be used alone or together with an oral antidepressant.
SPRAVATO® is also FDA-approved, together with an oral antidepressant, for depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder who have acute suicidal ideation or behavior.
SPRAVATO® has not been shown to prevent suicide or to eliminate the need for hospitalization when hospitalization is clinically appropriate.
INSURANCE & AFFORDABILITY
SPRAVATO® may be more affordable than you expect.
Unlike off-label ketamine treatment, SPRAVATO® may be covered by health insurance when medical-necessity and plan requirements are met.
Insurance Coverage
Northwind Holistic Psychiatry works with multiple commercial insurance and Medicaid plans. Coverage, prior-authorization requirements, deductibles, copays, and coinsurance vary by plan.
Manufacturer Savings
Eligible patients with commercial or private insurance may qualify for manufacturer savings that can substantially reduce the medication portion of SPRAVATO® treatment, subject to program limits and eligibility requirements.
Low Out-of-Pocket Cost May Be Possible
For some eligible patients, insurance coverage and available patient-support programs can result in very low out-of-pocket treatment costs. Individual benefits and eligibility must be confirmed before treatment.
Coverage and financial assistance are not guaranteed. Eligibility varies by insurance plan, state, program, and other requirements.
Our team can help determine your insurance benefits, prior-authorization requirements, and available options before treatment.
WHEN KETAMINE BECOMES AVAILABLE
A deliberate process from the beginning.
Initial Evaluation
We review your symptoms, diagnoses, medical history, previous treatments, medications, substance use, treatment goals, and relevant safety considerations.
Review the Alternatives
We discuss reasonable treatment options, including FDA-approved alternatives such as SPRAVATO® when clinically appropriate.
Shared Decision-Making
If ketamine is appropriate, we review the off-label nature of treatment, potential risks and benefits, uncertainties, monitoring, and expectations before proceeding.
Treatment & Follow-Up
Treatment is medically monitored and response is reassessed over time rather than assuming that one protocol is appropriate for every patient.
